Art in the form of human figure goes back ancient time in Egypt: people were portrayed with their head in outline and with entire eyes visible. They kept this Egyptian style in Egypt for approximately 3,000 years. Initially, people were portrayed in the form of profile then things got a little more interesting that people began to put more details in work. As time goes on and with the art has been developed in various doctrines, human figure becomes a popular form of art.

The life drawing shown above kind of inspires me in some ways. It is a good way for people to study shape, line work, tone and surely, human structure. Human figure in art bases on human figure and putting art elements that makes it pops out or something else.

Also these collage are some cool style of human figure arts in which surrealism is also involved in.

 I like this piece because it pretty close to my line work style as far as I can see in this picture. Loose line work and gesture drawing makes the figure in this piece even more active, dynamic.

Modern surrealism somehow tends to be more skillful and precise in digital area, and as it compares to the former surrealistic art, it gains more attention from mass public. Surrealism today develops in a successful shape that it possesses more commercial elements, which is kind at odds with the idea of art as being a discipline of imagination, creativity and aesthetics. But the art theory is being measured by business and commerce during its long development. Current surrealism is being accepted by public, including artists. It is being acknowledged by mass aesthetic.

The picture shown above is a art work by Ben Zank, a New York young artist who's originally a journalism student but soon found his passion in photography. This artist is a modern surrealism art artist and his works are surely good. His creation is based on the exploration of his emotional experience and often involve his struggling. The picture could be a typical one of his works.

The other modern surrealism artist that is pretty worth talking is Glenn Brown. He is a painter and a sculptor who's best known for borrowing images from artists like Salvador Dali and some other unknown artist of Sci-Fi paperbacks. He brings sci-fi figures in his art work and make it wild and transform it familiar with alien.

René Magritte.

Born in 1898, he is a internationally acknowledged and acclaimed surrealism artist for all his life: As the most celebrated Belgian artists in twentieth century, Rene Magritte has achieved a certain level of his artistic achievement not only in the area of surrealism art. The definition he gives about his works is "visible images which conceals nothing--- because mystery dosen't have to mean anything."

 Decalcomania, 1966. One of Magritte's masterpieces, completed by oil. This gives a funny visual shockwave to me when I took my first look at it. The technique is cool absolutely---oil on canvas, but what may be a good thing to talk about may not be the meaning or illustrstion---the space of imagination is expanded endlessly in this piece. 

The sixteenth of September, 1956 by Rene Magritte. In his pieces he describes trees are the images of happinese. He painted a moon on a tree in a blue-gray colors of evening, and the title the sixteenth of September is expressed obviousy by the color usage here. But what's more for me is the tree with the blue backgroud---it feels like sihouette in photography. Well, an object with the single color in solid shape---even the tree here is composed of mutiple colors---makes this piece more interesting. 

So this aspiring artist was initially affected by cubism, which probabaly can be seen partially in some of his pieces, however, in 1930s, during the period of the bloom of surrealsim art,Rene was tired of creating the crowd, odd or uncanny visual things and turned out to start and exhibit impressionist art he created. Although that was not acknowledged and acclaimed and even was sneered, the style was somehow kept in his work to later period time.

Moki Mioke.
German surrealism artist Moki Mioki, currently lives in Berlin, she expresses her way of understanding this wide world in her collage surrealism. I was kind of shocked by her fantastic illustration of people and nature when I took my first look at her pieces. Her incredible collage pieces reveal a really deep, surreal, and very close connection between human and this nature, their environment. Her pieces that meshing the whole nature and human race together with expressive portrait and really detailed environment impressed me a lot. Here's one of her cool pieces:

Eugenia Loli.

Here's another artist whose collage surrealism is pretty impressive and photographic---Eugenia Loli, she is actually a photographer and a graphic designer. In her pieces the figure or the background makes me feel I am in a particular setting of a surrealistic film or vintage magazine. More importantly,
there's elements of both Pop art and surrealism( I think she's more tends to dadaism) in her collage pieces---the highly contrast of color and the visual impact.

Grattage surrealism.

Grattage surrealism is a member of numerous techniques and skills in surrealistic art: It's a surrealist technique in painting in which (usually wet) paint is scraped off the canvas. It was employed by Max Ernst and Joan Miro. To some extent, the grattage process is sort of reminiscent of scraping an oiled surface in lithography---a method of planographic printing from a stone (or metal) surface. 
Grattage is ued in 20th century graphic art in Russia grattage under the name " grattographia" first used by M.V. Dobuzhinski. in his art works.
To some certain extent, grattage technique is pretty like the theory of block priinting.

About Dream.

Speaking of dream, some time my head just get a massive headache and feel sick when I get up, like I woke up with a hangover. Then some images brokenly shown up in mind, which are probably from my dream when I'm sleeping. Those are unreal,insubstantial,kind of illusory dreamland,containing surrealistic elements,possibly. Some of them express and associate with my daily life(as far as I can remember). The most impressive one that I've ever dreamed is a scene that my head turns into a furious monster,driving me to the ground,then it turns to dust.The image sticks in mind like a poison dart.

The picture shown above is a photography work by Silvia Grav, a female photographer from Madrid, Spain. Her surreal dreamy black and white images,photography works express beautiful,fascinating surrealistic dreamland by combining simple black and white and outstanding post production. Her works are impressive,attractive art work that expressed by many different materials. Classical digital art, I think.

The other artist that really impresses me with his works is Rodney Smith, a New York artist, photographer. His works kind of express "The modern times" in some interesting, vagarious way. Still based on black and white color style, but unlike Silvia Grav's noir,depressive photos, what his photography works express are more witty, humorous and active.
